Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana karakter perempuan dalam gim Mobile Legends: Bang Bang direpresentasi sekaligus menelaah wacana oksidentalisme yang memunculkan apropriasi Barat melalui femme fatale. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes dan analisis naratif melalui teks-teks yang dilekatkan pada indikasi konstruksi femme fatale dalam konstruksi budaya Barat serta mekanisme oksidentalis yang membangun stereotipe negatif terhadap Barat. Peneliti menemukan bahwa karakter penjahat utama dalam semesta Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, yaitu Alice disematkan melalui simbol-simbol Barat dikonstruksi sebagai subjek yang liyan. Peneliti juga menemukan bahwa gim Mobile Legends: Bang Bang menampilkan ambivalensi budaya antara kekaguman estetika Barat melalui pemakaian konsep-konsep Tolkiens dan Epos Homer tetapi menempatkan simbol-simbol Barat sebagai “yang Liyan” melalui karakter Alice sebagai figur femme fatale. Temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa produk budaya digital di Asia, khususnya dari Tiongkok, dapat menjadi arena perlawanan terhadap nilai-nilai Barat yang di negosiasikan melalui representasi perempuan dalam relasi Timur-Barat sebagai wacana Oksidentalisme.
