Correction and Retraction Policy

Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi UHO: Jurnal Penelitian Kajian Ilmu Komunikasi dan Informasi is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes the importance of correcting errors and addressing concerns identified after publication in accordance with the principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Correction

Corrections may be issued when errors are identified in published articles that affect the accuracy, clarity, or interpretation of the research but do not invalidate its overall findings or conclusions.

Corrections may include errors in author information, data presentation, statistical analysis, references, or other relevant aspects of the published article.

Authors who identify significant errors in their published work are responsible for promptly notifying the Editorial Board.

The Editorial Board will evaluate the reported errors and determine whether a formal correction is necessary. Approved corrections will be published with a clear reference and link to the original article.

2. Retraction

Retraction may be considered when a published article contains serious errors or violations that substantially undermine the reliability or integrity of its findings.

Grounds for retraction may include:

  1. Fabrication or falsification of research data.

  2. Plagiarism or substantial unauthorized reproduction of previously published work.

  3. Redundant or duplicate publication without appropriate disclosure.

  4. Serious methodological errors that invalidate the research findings.

  5. Unethical research practices or other significant violations of publication ethics.

Retraction decisions are made by the Editorial Board following a careful evaluation of the available evidence and, where appropriate, consultation with the authors, reviewers, or relevant institutions.

Retracted articles will remain accessible in the journal's archives with a clear retraction notice to maintain transparency and the integrity of the scholarly record. The notice will explain the reasons for retraction and be linked to the original article.

3. Expression of Concern

When serious concerns arise regarding a published article but the available evidence is insufficient to reach a final decision, the Editorial Board may issue an Expression of Concern.

An Expression of Concern informs readers of unresolved issues while further clarification or investigation is conducted.

Following the evaluation, the Editorial Board may issue a correction, retract the article, or withdraw the Expression of Concern when the concerns have been resolved.

4. Correction and Retraction Procedures

The journal applies the following procedures:

  1. Notification: Concerns or errors may be reported by authors, readers, reviewers, editors, or other relevant parties.

  2. Editorial Assessment: The Editorial Board evaluates the reported issue and examines the available evidence.

  3. Author Clarification: Authors are given an opportunity to provide explanations or supporting documentation.

  4. Editorial Decision: The Editorial Board determines the appropriate action based on the nature and severity of the issue.

  5. Publication of Notice: Corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern are published transparently and linked to the original article.

Editorial decisions are made objectively and fairly, with priority given to preserving the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly literature.

5. Transparency and Accessibility

All correction and retraction notices will clearly identify the affected article, describe the reason for the editorial action, and indicate the date of publication of the notice.

The journal will maintain the accessibility of the scholarly record and ensure that readers can identify articles that have been corrected or retracted. Published records will not be silently altered or removed, except in exceptional circumstances involving legal obligations or serious risks to individuals.
